„The English Riviera“, das dirtte Album von Metronomy und die LP, die die Karriere von Metronomy dauerhaft prägte, wird zehn Jahre alt. Zu diesem Anlass veröffentlicht die Band heute eine Deluxe-Version ihres Klassikers mit sechs bislang unveröffentlichten Bonustracks.

Über das Jubiläum sagt Sänger Joseph Mount: „My first apartment in Paris had an almost comically perfect view of Montmartre and the Sacré-Cœur Basilica. In the shadow of the Sacré Cœur, with Barbès and the hill of Montmartre as a backdrop, I sat idly one day and wrote what would become one of Metronomy’s most popular songs. I was tinkering around with one of Marion’s keyboards and after a short while came up with the bit that gets stuck in your head; the der-de-der-der bit. Four months later, we finished recording The Look.“

„The English Riviera“ ist nicht nur eine Liebeserklärung an die Küste des Ortes, in dem Mount aufwuchs, das Album markierte auch den endgültigen Durchbruch von Metronomy – es war u.a. für den Mercury Prize nominiert – und bescherte ihnen globalen Erfolg. Aktuell arbeitet die Band an ihrer siebten LP, die nächstes Jahr erscheinen soll.
